Event Description

TONY PURLER’S 14 DAY INTENSIVE CAMP

If you’re on my page looking at this Camp, then you’ll likely already know that I know what I’m doing and that this would be a good camp for your wrestler. But obviously, I have to put a description down and it is listed below. It is directed to the point And I won’t try to sway people with generic words like mental toughness, tough training, conditioning, etc. This is a wrestling camp and we will learn Wrestling though learning, drilling, sparring, chain drilling, and live wrestling. But below is an explanation of what is covered.

This intensive camp won’t be Intense due to the kids running and doing pushups while I’m screaming at them. I think those camps are a waste, and I don’t think any of these kids are trying to become a state champ in Fitness. That’s what CrossFit is for.

What we will do:
Learn how to win core positions. Your wrestler gets to the SAME positions as college kids. It’s just wrestling as I like to say. It’s a difficult sport, but it’s less difficult when the kids learn how to win ALL the common positions they find themselves in every single match. This sport can be simplified, and too many complicate it by bombarding campers with random moves that are fun to practice and cool to hit in a match if they work.
Like I tell kids, “after you shake hands in a match, and the ref blows the whistle, what do you want to do?” Ironically they never tell me the right answer. Which is to get to their opponents legs, and that’s 99% of the sport right?” Men in the Olympics try to grab the other guys legs a bunch, and we should too.  Due to this we run into hand fighting, using ties, clearing ties, perfect timing, setups, getting caught in front heads locks, getting trapped in bad positions due to a missed shot, scrambling, etc etc. I think you get the idea by now huh? The simple act of trying to grab an opponent’s leg requires a boat load of knowledge and moves. But below is further clarification.

Technique agenda:
Leg attacks
Finishes, both good and bad shots
Core defense
Scramble defense
Motion footwork timing
Controlled ties (scoring with and clearing those ties)
Top
Bottom (stand ups, sit outs, rolls)
Leg riding (offense and clearing legs)
Etc etc.
We have two weeks, so we will cover wrestling and drill this stuff so that the kids have it down before they leave the camp.

Additionally (this stuff below can’t be covered in a 5 day camp) but we will discuss this and cover this as well:

How to wrestle a fast guy, a strong guy, a tall opponent, etc. great wrestlers can make IN MATCH adjustments, and not be stumped when facing an opponent who has an intangible such as speed or strength. A big wrestling IQ settles the nerves out there.

Sorry for the bluntness but I very much hate reading descriptions of something and leave with a feeling that it was just a generic word salad.
We will learn wrestling. We just won’t cover goofy moves that may be available once a year.

I could write a cliche’ ridden camp description, but I think some may appreciate my speaking bluntly.
